Warmingham and District WI held its first official meeting in February 1948, after a group of ladies got together to discuss the possibility of starting their own Women’s Institute. With the help of officials from the Cheshire Federation, this first meeting was held in the Rectory by kind permission of the Rector’s wife and for some years the WI met each month at the homes of various committee members. When the membership became too great for this to continue, the monthly meetings then moved to Warmingham Primary School and continued there until the early 1970s, when Warmingham Village Hall was renovated and re-opened. From then until the present day the WI held its meetings and activities there. In 2008 we were proud to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee in that same hall. Our Institute continues to thrive and grow, and we thank those women, several of whom have descendants in the same WI, for their foresight and determination to join the ever-growing band of Women’s Institutes, over sixty years ago.
